Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Reinhard F. J. Hüttl

Since mid-2007 the Chairman of the Council, Prof. Reinhard Hüttl, has been the Chairman of the German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam. Between 1978 and 1983 he studied forest sciences, specialising in soil sciences, at Albert Ludwig University Freiburg and at Oregon State University (USA). After attaining his PhD at Freiburg University he headed an international research department at the mining company Kali und Salz AG/BASF Group in Kassel (1986–1992). After a professorship at the University of Hawaii (1990–91) he was appointed in 1992 to the Chair of Soil Protection and Recultivation at the Brandenburg Technical University in Cottbus. From 1995 to 2000 Reinhard Hüttl was a member of the German government’s Council of Experts for Environmental Questions, and from 2000 to 2006 he was both a member and Chairman of the Scientific Commission of the Scientific Council. Since 2008 Reinhard Hüttl has been President of acatech – the German Academy of Science and Engineering. In 2008 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany First Class by the Federal President. |
