Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Andreas J. Büchting

Dr. Dr. h.c. Andreas J. Büchting Dr Andreas J. Büchting is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of KWS SAAT AG and Deputy Chairman of the Bio-economy Council.

He studied agrobiology at Stuttgart–Hohenheim University and at Cornell University in Ithaca/New York. After his degree he embarked on postgraduate studies in economic sciences at Berlin Free University. In 1975 he joined the scientific staff at KWS SAAT AG, and in 1977 he was awarded his PhD by Stuttgart–Hohenheim University for a thesis on applied plant genetic technology.

Andreas J. Büchting represents the sixth generation of the founding families of KWS. From 1978 to 2007 he was the executive board spokesman of KWS SAAT AG for overall coordination of business activities, as well as for the research and development department. He has been involved in a number of agricultural research institutes (Max Planck Society, Founding Association for German Science, German Academy of Naturalists Leopoldina). In December 2007 he moved from the executive board to the supervisory board at KWS SAAT AG, where he became Chairman.
