Prof. Dr. Achim Bachem

Since 1 October 2006 Prof. Dr Achim Bachem has been Chairman at Forschungszentrum Jülich. Prior to this, between 1996 and 2006, he was a board member at the German Aerospace Center (DLR). There he was responsible for space travel and traffic research, as well as information and communication technology. Between 1969 and 1973 Achim Bachem studied mathematics and physics, in 1976 he was awarded his PhD and became Dr rer. pol., and he successfully completed his postdoctoral thesis in 1980. From 1983 to 1996 Achim Bachern was a Professor of Applied Mathematics. From 1983 to 1996 he was a founder member and Chairman of the Centre for Parallel Computing (ZPR) at Cologne University. From 1994 to 2000 he was member and Chairman of the DFG Commission for Computing. Professor Bachern is a member of several national and international supervisory and advisory boards, and a trustee of industry, business and research organisations. Amongst other things he is vice-president of the Helmholtz Association and a member of the supervisory or advisory boards of various institutes of the Max Planck and Fraunhofer Societies. |
