Prof. Dr. Folkhard Isermeyer

Prof. Dr Folkhard Isemeyer is President of the Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute (vTI), Federal Research Institute of Rural Areas, Forestry and Fisheries in Brunswick.

After studying agricultural sciences at Göttingen he obtained his PhD in 1987 with an international comparison of production systems in dairy cow husbandry. In 1990, as Director and Professor he became head of the Institute of Business Economics at the former Federal Research Institute of Agriculture (FAL). His main research areas were European agricultural policy, analysing the international competitiveness of German agriculture, the question of farm size in agriculture, environmental policy, and research policy in agriculture.

He has presented his research findings in more than 300 publications and more than 600 lectures. In 1996 Folkhard Isermeyer was appointed Honorary Professor by Göttingen University. Besides his academic reputation he has a wealth of experience in policy advice and committee work, including as Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board for Agricultural Policy of the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, and as President of the Confederation of Agricultural Research.
