Prof. Dr. Wiltrud Treffenfeldt

Prof. Dr. Wiltrud Treffenfeldt Prof. Dr Wiltrud Treffenfeldt is Director of Bioprocess Development at Dow AgroSciences LLC, Indianapolis/USA. Together with her team she is responsible for the development and implementation of strategies in the fields of agricultural biotechnology, animal health and industrial biotechnology for Dow and DAS.

Wiltrud Treffenfeldt has more than 25 years of industrial experience. She has worked in various positions for Dow since, prior to her current role as Director of Biopharma R&D in San Diego. Before Dow, she worked at Degussa AG in Germany for 16 years. As the chief head of department for biotechnology and environmental technology she helped establish commercially processes for the production of amino acids for animal nutrition using fermentation and biocatalysis. In the field of environmental biotechnology the focus was on the development of biological processes for cleaning fumes and microbiological soil cleaning.

Prof. Treffenfeldt studied biotechnology (Technical University Berlin) and obtained her PhD in technological chemistry from Dortmund University where she was supervised by Prof. Onken. From 1987 to 2005 she also lectured in biotechnology in the Mechanical Engineering department at Hanover University, and was appointed Honorary Professor in 1995. As an internationally renowned expert in red and white biotechnology she has many advisory positions in research institutions (BMBF, DFG, OECD, Dechema). In 2001 and 2002 she was a board member of the ‘European Federation of Biotechnology’ and was an active participant in the OECD study ‘Application of Industrial Biotechnology to Sustainability’. Since 2005 Prof. Treffenfeldt has been assisting ProBioGen AG as a member of its supervisory board.
