Prof. Dr Fritz Vahrenholt is CEO of RWE Innogy GmbH, RWE’s holding company for renewable energies. After obtaining a PhD in chemistry and a visiting research post at the Max Planck Institute of Carbon Research in Mülheim, he had other positions at the Federal Environment Agency in Berlin and in the Ministry of the Environment for the Land of Hesse. From 1984 to 1990 Varenholt worked as chief officer in the Environmental Authority for the Land of Hamburg, and in 1990/91 he was head of the Senate Chancellery. From 1991 to 1997 he was a Hamburg senator and President of the Environmental Authority, as well as the head of the supervisory board of HEW. In 1998 he joined the board of Deutsche Shell AG where, amongst other things, he was responsible for the chemical business and the newly established field of renewable energies. In 2000 Fritz Varenholt moved to Shell’s supervisory board. Since April 2001 he has been Chairman of REpower Systems AG. Fritz Vahrenholt was a member of the federal government’s Sustainability Council from 2001 to 2007. |
