GO-Bio: A new selection round for the bio-technology foundation offensive
From now on research groups in universities or research establishments outside universities can apply for the 5th selection round of the "GO-Bio" Competition of the Federal Ministry for Education and Research. What is being sought are foundation teams who are working on highly innovative research topics, which have a promising, provable potential for commercialisation. Research projects which are in line with the aims of the "National BioEconomy Research Strategy 2030" are specifically required.
The research topics can come from all branches of modern life sciences and from the border areas between biology and its neighbouring disciplines of the natural sciences and technology. Projects, which are in line with the aims of the "National BioEconomy Research Strategy 2030" and which are researching in the areas of the production of healthier and safer foodstuffs or the industrial use of renewable raw materials, are particularly welcome. Equally welcome are platform technologies, which are contributing to these aims in advanced steps.
The GO-Bio Competition gives younger scientists, who already have some experience in research, the chance to develop further innovative research topics from the bio-sciences field in Germany with their own team and to deliver a target-oriented application. As part of the research, the potential for application of the development should be worked on, technologically validated and as a priority the commercial application should be prepared with the aim of founding a bio-tech company.
Groups of researchers in universities or research establishments outside universities who emerge as winners from the competition will be supported. Support will follow in two phases: in the first support phase the application potential of the development should be worked on and technologically validated by the team. At the same time concrete commercialisation or clinical application strategies for the further implementation of the results should be developed.
