Dr. Stefan Marcinowski

Dr Stefan Marcinowski (born 1953) has been a board member of BASF SE since 1997.

He studied chemistry at Stuttgart University and Freiburg/Bresigau University, where he received his PhD in 1978 under Prof. Grisebach. After one year as an assistant at the Bio-chemistry Institute in Freiburg he joined the chief laboratory (biotechnology research area) at BASF. In 1988 he was appointed head of the central department for public work. From 1992 he was head of BASF S.A. in Brazil. As a board member of BASF he was the research spokesman for eleven years. His current areas of responsibility on the board include plant protection, plant bio-technology and coatings.

Since 2008 he has been Vice-President of the Max Planck Society, as well as the German Industrial Association of Bio-technology. Dr Marcinowski was a member of the research union Economy–Science. As a facilitator and promoter he was responsible for the fields of ‘biotechnology’ and ‘nanotechnology’.
